Introduction

A complete neglect of an ancient Siva temple with exquisite sculptures in dilapidated condition remains in Pazhayakaliyampoondi village, near Uthiramerur. The stone temple is totally surrounded by thorny bushes restricting the entry into the temple. The dilapidated temple has only few broken idols, namely a Avudayar without Banam, a broken Ambal idol and a broken Mahavishnu idol by the side of Avudayar in Sanctum Sanctorum. There is also one Lakshminarayanar idol in slightly damaged condition. Various divine images are beautifully sculpted on the pillars. No details are available regarding this ancient temple.
