Introduction
Then Kalathiswarar Shiva Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, Located in the Malliyam village, Mayiladuthurai District. Presiding deity is called as Then Kalathiswarar. The temple is believed to be 500- 1000 years Shiva temple. The Vaishnava koothu played by Thirumala, when Thirumal killed Vanana with the help of the Mallars when he was suffering from the demon gods Vanan. It is named as Malliyam based on the act of understanding war.. It is the town where the Maratha period Annasatram was located. Malliyam is a roadside town. Located on the north bank of the Cauvery River, which runs to the north of the town, this small single sanctum sanctorum is dedicated to the fact that it was a single lingam and is worshiped by the people as the Then Kalathiswarar. The lingam is now placed in the big tin shed. The Lord is the great lingamurti towards the east.
