Puranic Significance

Ayodhya Nattarsar’s wife Sumathi had 60,000 children and another wife, Cassini, had only one child as a result of penance for infertility. Years later, King Sagara performed a horse expedition (Ashwamedha yajna) to prove his supremacy. Later, the horse sent by Chakra to perform the Aswamedha Yajna disappeared. While 60,000 sons were searching for the horse, Sage Kapila saw the horse standing at the entrance of the cave. Thus Bhagiratha, who came to the clan of the grieving Sagara, on the advice of the sage Vashishta brought the river Ganges to earth and worshiped it and sought liberation from the curse of the ancestors. Kapil was saddened to think that Sagaran’s generation had been affected by his anger and performed Shiva Puja to atone for it. He held a lingam in his left hand and sprinkled the flower with his right hand. Lord Shiva appeared to him and asked, what was the reason for holding his hand and worshiping him? To which Kapil replied, ‘I don’t mind putting myself on the ground and worshiping myself. That’s why I worshiped with my hands. “Worshiping with the penis in my hand is not the right way. You have to be born a cow to atone for this. “Said Esan. Accordingly Kapila Maharishi, who was born as a cow, comes to Thillai Kapileswarar Temple in the south-eastern part of the Thillai Temple. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
