Introduction
Skandasramam, located in a serene and hilly environment in the vicinity of Salem, Tamil Nadu, is a unique temple complex with shrines dedicated to Lord Skanda (Murugan) and other deities. The temple was founded by Shantananda Swami in the latter half of the 20th century.It is located approximately 10 kilometers from Salem town and is situated on top of a small hill known as Skandagiri.
Puranic Significance
- The temple complex known as Skandasramam was established in the year 1971 by His Holiness Sri Santhananda Swamigal.
- According to the temple’s history, Lord Muruga appeared in a dream to Sri Santhananda Swamigal and directed him to build a temple at a specific location, which is where Skandasramam now stands.
- The temple was initially started with simple structures but has since grown in size and fame, featuring architectural skills and remarkable sculptures.
Navagrahas with Consorts:
- The temple has a unique feature where the Navagrahas (nine planets) are enshrined alongside their respective consorts.
Pancha Mukha Anjaneya and Pancha Mukha Ganapathi:
- The temple features statues of Pancha Mukha Anjaneya (Hanuman with five faces) and Pancha Mukha Ganapathi. These deities are placed facing each other.
