Introduction

• Devi Karumariyamman Temple is a prominent temple dedicated to Goddess Sakthi, located in Thiruvadisoolam Village, near Chengalpattu Town in Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.
• The temple is under construction but already houses a magnificent 51-feet tall image of Karumariyamman.
• The temple is situated close to the Thiruvadisoolam Gnanapureeswarar Temple and is approximately 5 km from Chengalpattu, 15 km from Chengalpattu Junction Railway Station, and 42 km from Chennai Airport. It is located on the Chengalpattu to Thiruporur route.

Puranic Significance

• The temple was founded by Sri Madurai Muthu Swamigal, who hailed from the lineage of Sri Thambu Swamigal. It is believed that Devi Karumari Amman appeared in Sri Thambu Swamigal’s dream, instructing him to build a temple for her at this location.
• Temple Orientation: The temple faces east, with the deity’s lion mount and Balipeedam positioned facing the sanctum.
• Soolam and Structure: There is a 32-feet tall stone soolam in front of the goddess. The sanctum and other parts of the temple are still under construction.
• Devi’s Image: The main deity, Devi Karumariyamman, stands in her Viswaroopa form, carved out of a single monolithic stone weighing 800 tons. The stone was sourced from Sirudhamur Village, and it took six years for the sthapathis to sculpt the image. The deity was installed on September 11, 2008.
• Posture and Form: The goddess is seated in a posture with ten hands, each holding various weapons, while also showing varada and abhaya hastams.
• Venkatesa Perumal Shrine: Behind the Karumariyamman temple, there is a shrine dedicated to Venkatesa Perumal (Srinivasa Perumal), which features an 11-feet tall idol of the deity along with his consort Alarmelmangai Thayar. This shrine is surrounded by miniature shrines of the 108 Divyadesams.
• Future Plans: The temple complex plans to house a Mahalingam that will rise 163 feet in height and 148 feet in length. This grand structure will contain 10,000 lingams, each holding 1,000 lingams, amounting to one crore lingams in total.
