Introduction
Thappalampuliyur Gangaikonda Iswarar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, located in the Thiruvarur. Thappalampuliyur is a small village located 5 km southeast of Thiruvarur. There is also a crossing of Kaduvai River at a distance of three km on the Pudupathur road that separates from Nagai road. This is one of the 9 Vyagrapurams established by Vyagrapadar Shivalingam. Its original name is Thalparanbuliyur. Talparan means Lord; there are six temples and six ponds in this town. Each has its own specialty.
Puranic Significance
There are two Shiva temples; the first one is a small temple and a big one is worshiped by Vyagrabhadra and Mandugam. The second temple near the famous Gundallam temple is located on the north bank of Periyakulam, the small temple towards the east is Lord – Gangaikonda Easwarar, the Goddess – Gangaikonda Easwari Lord is Periyalinga Murthy. The deity has a shrine towards the south. Near the gate of the Lord’s sanctum is a beautiful Ganesha. There is also a Ganesha near the sanctum gate of the temple. These temples are believed to be 1000 years old.
