Introduction             

  1. Location:
    • The temple is located in Sivarampet village, near Tenkasi, in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu.
    • The temple is situated close to the Tenkasi Kasi Vishwanathar Temple, built by King Parakrama Pandian.
  2. Presiding Deity:
    • The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, worshiped as Sivalingeswarar.
    • Mother Ulaganayaki is the consort of Lord Shiva, worshiped in a separate sanctum.
  3. Puranic Significance:
    • The temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
    • It has two prakaras (enclosures). The temple complex features several deities:
      • Lord Nandi is present in the Mahamandapam (main hall).
      • Rarely, Krishna is depicted on the right of Nandi, and Murugan on the left.
      • The Ardha Mandapam houses statues of Ganesha and Kajalakshmi.
      • Ambika (Parvati) resides in a separate sanctum to the left of Lord Shiva, with Nandi placed in front of her.
      • Shrines of Ganesha, Valli Deivanai Sametha Subramanian, and Chandikeswarar are in the Prakaram (outer courtyard).
      • Anjaneyar (Hanuman) is sculpted on the interior wall, and Kalabhairavar is housed in the south-facing sanctum.
      • The Nagar idol is enshrined under an arch tree in the outer courtyard.
  4. Special Features:
    • On the day of Maha Shivaratri (in the Tamil month of Masi), after a four-day puja, the rays of the sun pass through the bottom to the top of the Sivalingeswarar lingam, symbolizing sun worship of Lord Shiva.
    • Miracle of Rain: The villagers once prayed for rain by offering eleven jugs of water to the Ganesha idol in the temple. Miraculously, rain began the very next day, continuing for two days.
  5. Renovation and Kumbabhishekam:
    • Over time, the temple has suffered from wear and tear, but village elders united to restore it.
    • The Kumbabhishekam (consecration ceremony) was held on 1st September 2013, after completing the restoration work.
