Introduction
Orathur Agnipureeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Orathur village, Nagai circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. 5 km on the road leading to Nagai Medical College, this Shiva temple is located behind the medical college. This area belongs to Orathur village. Along with this temple, there are many temples of Lord Shiva. Here the presiding deity is called as Agnipureeswarar and Mother is called as Tripurasundari.
Puranic Significance
According to the information of a villager, the Lord is called Agnipureeswarar because he is located in the Agnimoola of the town. The ancient temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. It is said that the ancient Shiva temple here was destroyed from one place, and now the Nagai Medical College and Hospital is the landmark of this temple.
The temple is being built, facing west facing the hospital. The work is being done beautifully with completely black stone, now the work is suspended and stopped, Lord Agni Pureeshwarar is present in the sanctum towards the west, the sanctum sanctorum is being prepared towards the south, and the idol of the Lord is also nearby the sanctum.
