Introduction
Orathur Agatheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Orathur village, Nagai circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. On the right side of the main road is Chitambaranar Secondary School and near it is Kamala Nayanavasudeva perumal Temple, if you enter through the archway on the left side of the road, there is a temple facing east on a large terrace and a large pond on its north side. There is also a small Vinayagar temple. This place is one of the 164 places where Agathiyar is worshipped. So here the Lord’s name is Agatheeswarar and Mother is called Akilandeswari.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. The Lord has a sanctum towards the east and the gate has gatekeepers on both sides. The mother blesses with his womb towards the south. Nandi is in a small hall outside it. In front of it is Kodimara vinayakar. No flagpole in the temple. There is a long tin shed. A separate temple has been set up for Tenmugan in Karurai Kotham. Prakarasitalayas Vinayakar valli Deivanai samedha murugan are in the sanctum. Durga is worshiped as Mangala Durga and is the mother who blesses those seeking marriage. A few snakes lined up under the big padri tree in the northeast. Bhairava is in one of the north-east corner facing west, Navagrahas are also nearby.
