Puranic Significance
- King Nalliya Kodan: It is believed that Nalliya Kodan, a local king, built the temple in 1645 after a divine vision. The Lord appeared to the king, guiding him to victory in a battle, after which the king constructed the temple.
- Chola and Pallava Inscriptions: Inscriptions from the Chola and Pallava eras have been found, suggesting the original temple might be much older, later renovated by Nalliya Kodan.
- Communication with Adavalleeswarar: There is a belief that the Lord here communicates with Adavalleeswarar (Shiva) from the nearby Adavalleeswarar Temple through Vaishnavi, the goddess, between 1:00 AM and 2:00 AM under a banyan tree.
Beliefs
- Swati Star Homam: A special homam is held on Swati star days. Worshipping Sriyoga Narasimha and wearing the Raksha (protective charm) from the homam is believed to resolve debt issues and bring peace of mind.
- Srividya Prapti Homam: This homam is conducted during the exam period. School students who attend and worship are believed to perform well in their exams.
