Introduction
Location:
- Situated in M. P. K Pudupatti village, Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu.
- Located about 10 km from the Srivilliputhur-Rajapalayam Highway, near Mamsapuram, with the Pudupatti bus stop being the closest landmark.
Age & History:
- The temple is believed to be 500 years old.
- The temple was built during the Pandyan rule by families engaged in agriculture, who settled in the foothills of the Western Ghats and named the village “Pudhupatti.”
- Initially, a brick temple was constructed for the worship of Muthu Irulappaswami (an aspect of Lord Shiva), and over time, the temple was renovated into stone construction.
Puranic Significance:
- The village flourished due to agriculture, and the faith of the locals grew stronger.
- The temple became a center of worship for the surrounding villages, drawing many devotees who believed in its divine power.
Beliefs:
- Devotees believe that worshipping Muthu Irulappaswami with faith can help regain lost property.
Special Features:
- The temple complex includes separate shrines for the Presiding deity Muthu Irulappaswami and Goddess.
- The structure consists of:
- Moolavar Sannathi (main shrine)
- Mahamandapam (main hall)
- Ardhamandapam (half-hall)
- Sanctum Sanctorum (inner chamber).
- Nandi Devar altar in the Mahamandapam.
- Beautiful statues of Lord Ganesha and Valli Devasena Sametha Subramania Swamy on both sides of the Ardhamandapam gate.
- Dakshinamurthy, Ulagalanda Perumal, and Brahma shrines are also present.
- In the eastern circle, shrines for Vanapechi Amman, Lada Sannyasi, Tavasi Thambiran, Shivananintha Perumal, Periya Otakara, Chinna Otakara, Talavai Madan, Brahmaraksasi, Rakachi Amman, Pachi Amman, and Kanimoolai Ganapathy.
- In the western circle, shrines for Rishaparudar, Naganathan, Vallabha Vinayagar, and Sankara Vinayagar.
- Karuppasamy and Nilakandi shrines are in the northern circle.
