Jagadguru Shri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Mahaswamigal, also known as the Sage of Kanchi or Mahaperiyava, was the 68th Jagadguru Shankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, revered as “The great elder.” His teachings, documented in the book “Deivathin Kural” or “Voice of God,” highlighted the significance of a Guru in one’s life and emphasized the righteous path.

Mahaperiyava, during his travels across the country, delivered discourses covering diverse topics such as Dharma, ancient culture, and various subjects. These discourses were meticulously compiled into the “Deivathin Kural” by R. Ganapathy, published in multiple languages.

Renowned as the Sage of Kanchi, Mahaperiyava earned the title of a “walking god” among devotees due to the miracles he performed to alleviate their problems. His fame extended to his role as the head of the Kanchipuram monastery and his spiritual leadership in guiding followers toward a virtuous life.

Mahaperiyava’s association with the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, one of the Pancha-bootha-sthalas representing Earth, Sky, Air, Fire, and Water, established by Adi Shankara, solidified his significance in Hinduism. The peetham, based in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, is a vital religious institution in South India.

Proficient in languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Sanskrit, Marathi, English, and French, Maha Periyava communicated with a diverse audience, offering his wisdom to a wide range of people.
