Introduction
The Kothandarama Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is located at Chandragiri, near the holy town of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, India. The temple is situated about 300 meters from the Chandragiri Bus Station, 3 km from Chandragiri Railway Station, and 16 km from the Tirupati Airport. The famous Sri Vari Mettu (steps to reach Tirumala by walk) is also in close proximity to this temple.
Puranic Significance
- The Kothandarama Temple dates back to the 16th Century AD. It is located very close to the Chandragiri Fort, which was historically significant to the Rayas dynasty.
- The temple’s architectural grandeur rivals that of the fort, showcasing a remarkable blend of artistry and spiritual significance.
Special Features
- A unique feature of the temple is the presence of all the deities on a single pedestal, known as ‘Eka Peetham’. This is a rare occurrence in Hindu temples.
- The idols of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna are placed together on one platform. Additionally, Hanuman and Garuda are positioned on either side of the platform, creating a harmonious spiritual ensemble.
- The temple is managed by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), ensuring its upkeep and proper functioning.
