Location:
- The temple is located in 46 Puthur Village, near Erode, Tamil Nadu, about 5 km from Erode town.
- It is an ancient Shiva temple that faces the east side of the village.
Presiding Deity:
- The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshiped as Jyothi Maheswaran.
- Soundaranayaki is the consort of Lord Shiva, worshiped in a separate sanctum facing the south.
Puranic Significance:
- The temple is believed to be 500 to 1000 years old.
- The main sanctum houses Jyothi Maheswaran (Lord Shiva) along with his consort and Nandi as the primary guardian deity.
- In the Ardha Mandapam, there are idols of Ganesha, Chandana Lingam, and Nataraja.
- The Jyothi Maheswaran lingam in the sanctum is placed on a lotus pedestal, and is also referred to as Sudarkkozhunthu Nathar.
- The temple’s sanctuary tower is built in a pyramid-like structure and features 148 serpent figures.
