Introduction
Vettakudi Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Vettakudi village, Virudhachalam circle, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. This Shiva temple is next to the main highway. In the last year it has been newly built. Here the Lord is called as Vishwanath and Mother is called as Brannavarnayaki.
Puranic Significance
The temple faces south and has a huge Nandi facing north. Both Lord Vishwanath and mother Brannavarnayake have east facing shrines. In front of Vinayakar Balamurugan in Lord’s sanctum sanctorum there is also little Nandi. The back of the sanctum sanctorum is built in two layers like a Cup Board which is used to keep things in the house and it has Perumal Anjaneyar Gajalakshmi, Srilakshmi, Kanchi kamakshi, Madurai Meenatshi Kashivisalakshi, Vallitheiwani samedha murugan, surya, Chandra, bhairava are present. Below this, in a layer, small sivalingams are placed in some order. At least 40 lakhs would have been spent on the construction of this temple. The old Temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old.
