Introduction
This is a 1500 year old Arthanariswarar temple built by RajendraChola in the village of Veeracholapuram near Kallakurichi. His descendants sought to build a royal tower facing south.However, the construction of the Rajagopuram was not completed due to the death of the person involved in the work. Arthanareeswarar Temple is located in veeracholapuram, Kallakurichi District.TheShivalingam in this temple is dedicated and worshiped by the Siddhars. The historic Arthanariswarar Temple has been in a state of disrepair for the last 200 years and has not been rehabilitated.
Puranic Significance
The idol of Lord Murugan in the temple was stolen 40 years ago. Subsequently, the temple came under the control of the Department of Hindu Religious Affairs.The temple is currently in a state of disrepair. Due to this recently considering the safety of the statues a total of 17 idols, including 12 idols in the temple and 5 idols in the Perumal temple in the same village, were kept in the Gengayamman temple.In this situation, the authorities decided to take the idols to Viluppuram and keep them safe.
