Introduction
Varavukudi Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Varavukudi village, Sirkazhi taluk, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. This village is situated on the north bank of Uppanar River. Vishwanathar temple is situated in the east side of the river bridge. Here the Presiding deity is called as Vishwanatha and Mother is called as Vishalakshi. This is a temple with Lord’s sanctuary facing east side and goddess sanctuary facing south side. This Shiva temple may have been in big temple at one time. Now the temple is in dilapidated condition and it is a full of bricks. The entrance hall of the sanctum is cracked; the walls are torn by sprouting roots. All the murthys of Vishwanath Visalakshi Murugan are placed in the Iyanar temple opposite to this brick temple. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
