Puranic Significance
Bharata Sage Sivaparvati performed the marriage at Tiruvelvikudi. Only after the marriage was over did he invite the Lord to come to the upper tier of the residence. The Lord also agreed. Ask if the Lord and Mother are coming. He has arranged for a wonderful reception. Bharatamunivar met and invited the gods and goddesses who came to the wedding. Thus the place was called ‘Ethirkolpadi’. It is now called the ‘Upper Temple’. Bharathwaja Maharishi performed the Buddha Kameshti Yagya to get the blessing of a child for himself. Parvati was born to him as a child. When she reached the age of marriage, Maharishi asked Shiva to marry her. Shiva also came to the world to marry Ambika. It is our culture to come out and welcome guests who come to the house. Bharathwaj also greeted Lord Shiva, who came as a groom, with full respect. Shiva, in honor of Bharathwaj, arose here for his supplication. Bharathwaj was confronted and summoned to the stage as Ethirkolpadi and Swami as Thiruethir Kolpadi Udayar The name Iravadeswarar was later derived from the worship of Indra’s elephant, Iravatham.
Beliefs
It is very special if those who snatched the object and those who snatched the position worship here. If those who have faults do not get married and come here to worship, Indra will bless them as well, as if the curse of the fiftieth had been removed. It is very special to come here and worship for those who suffer from stomach ache and have lost business. Swami anoints Ambal and worships him wearing a robe. Before the bridegroom sees the bridegroom, the bridegroom brings his daughter here to be a good groom. They anoint Lord Shiva, put on a robe and perform puja. People who are upset with the groom and his family also perform pooja here. This is the place where parents should worship to make their daughter’s life better.
Special Features
Sage Durvasa came to the heavens carrying a lotus flower adorned with Shiva in his hands. Presented as a gift to Indra who defeated the Asuras. Indra ignored it. Thus the angry sage Pandya king cursed Indra to scatter his hair with the throwing hand. Indra apologized and cursed that Indra’s head would be covered with hair. Indra’s fiftieth elephant also played a role in ignoring the lotus flower. The elephant cursed by Durvasara came to earth and wandered around in many places. Puja was also performed at many places. Finally came to Italam and worshiped the Lord and the sorrow was removed. That is why the Lord here is called ‘Iravadeswarar’. Goddess Thirunam is the “flower tube heroine” of “Sukantha Kunthalambikai” Indra also regained the lost gold, material, position. Don’t change your mind, Wammin! Sundar invites everyone to this temple by chanting, If we accept that invitation, Shiva, who sees the happiness of the friend, will bless our grievances. Suffering from abdominal pain, the fetus here is too large to orbit the elephant as the fiftieth elephant is worshiped. It is hoped that the couple will prosper if the wedding reception is held at this place. Here Lord Shiva bestows blessings on the self. This is the 24th shrine out of 274 shrines to receive the devotional song of Lord Shiva. Bharatha Lingam is worshiped in Bharathalingam Prakaram. In the Swami Sannathi Koshtam, Durga is seen on the lotus pedestal. Along with Ganesha, Valli and Deivana, there are also Subramaniyar, Mahalakshmi, Gnanasaraswati, Byravar, Saneeswarar, and the accompanying Ganesha Sannidhis.
