Puranic Significance

• Representation: In Sanskrit, “Hayagreeva” translates to “Haya” (horse) and “Greeva” (neck). Lord Hayagreeva is also referred to as Hayasirsa.
• Legend: According to the Puranas, the demons Madhu and Kaitabha stole the Vedas from Brahma. To protect the Vedas, Maha Vishnu took the form of Hayagreeva to defeat the demons and recover the sacred texts.
