Introduction          

1. Location:
   • Located in Thuraiyur Town in Trichy District, Tamil Nadu.
   • The temple is situated about 2 km from Thuraiyur.
   • Nearest Railway Station: Trichy (51 km).
   • Nearest Airport: Trichy (52 km).
2. Puranic Significance:
   • The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva (as Nandikeswarar) and Mother Sambath Gowri Amman.
   • Originally known as Thiruvalisvaram Udaiya Nayanar Temple, it has historical significance from the 8th to 14th centuries.
   • Important figures such as Ayyanar, Pidari, Nagakanni, Indran, Thirumal, Venuvana Munivar, and Parasara are believed to have prayed here.
   • The temple has a five-tiered gopuram at its entrance.
   • The Nandi Theertham is the temple tank.
   • The temple houses shrines for Vinayakar, Murugan, Chandikeswarar, Bhairavar, and Natarajar.
   • A beautiful Nandi statue, 5 feet tall, with intricate carvings is located at the entrance of the main shrine.
   • Nagakanni is worshipped to remove Rahu and Ketu doshas, with special prayers offered on Fridays during Rahu kalam (10:30 am to 12:00 pm).
   • The Nagakanni idol turns blue when milk is poured over it, similar to the tradition at Tirunageswaram.
   • Nagakanni Amman is said to have brought a Shivalingam from the territory of demons and worshipped here for salvation.
3. Special Features:
   • Presiding Deity: Nandikeswarar (the Linga was named by Sundara Chozhan).
   • Mother Goddess: Sambath Gowri Amman.
   • The temple tank is called Nandhi Theertham.
   • There are many life-size, exquisitely carved stone sculptures within the temple.
   • Special poojas are conducted for Nagakanni Amman on Fridays during Rahu kalam.
   • A beautiful Maiya Mandapam (center mandapam) stands near the irrigation tank, though in a dilapidated condition.
4. Festivals:
   • All Lord Shiva-related festivals are celebrated with grandeur and devotion at the temple.
