• Location: Tirunarayanapuram Village, near Thottiyam, Trichy District, Tamil Nadu, India.

• Historical Significance: The temple is often called Aadi Rangam due to its Vedic origins. It was renovated during the 15th century Nayakar period.

Puranic and Historical Significance

• Mahabali’s Vision: The temple’s origins are connected to a divine vision experienced by Emperor Mahabali during his military campaign towards Mysore. Lord Vishnu instructed him in a dream to excavate a buried idol, leading to the discovery of the idol and the construction of the temple. Mahabali attributed his military victory to Lord Vishnu’s blessings and dedicated the village, Tirunarayanapuram, to the temple.
• Pillai Thiru Naraiyur Abhimana Kshetram: This story relates to Thiru Naraiyur Araiyar, who sought Moksha for himself and his family. When a fire broke out in the temple, he threw his children and himself into the flames to protect the deity, ultimately receiving divine grace and Moksha. The temple is thus named after this act of devotion.
• Significance of Worship: The temple is believed to be a place where Brahma, Prahaladha, Sugreeva, Hanuman, Garuda, and many others received divine sanction. It is also considered auspicious for educational success due to Lord Vishnu’s connection with Vedic education.
