Introduction
Thiruvarur Karunapureeswarar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, located in the Thiruvarur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Thiruvarur is one of the most important cities of Chola Dynasty. The city has tirthas and temples, which are worshiped by siddhars, sages, and gods. One of them is this Karunapureeswarar Temple. The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. Here the Presiding deity is called as Lord Karunapureeswarar in the form of lingam. Temple with an entrance gate with a small Rajagopuram-like structure. Although it is a small temple, it is a place where Gananambikai who can give wisdom and education to the seeking resides. There is a small Nandi altar in front. There is a shrine of Vinayagar in the prakaram and a shrine of Lakshmi. Above the road level, water stagnates inside the temple during the monsoons, and the walls are exposed to peeling plaster and crumbling bricks. The temple structure is very dilapidated condition and it is said to be more than a years.
