Puranic Significance
Once upon a time there was an argument between Brahman and Narada. In this, Brahma curses Narada. Saddened by this, Narada left Brahman and came to Ithalam and asked him to perform penance towards Perumala and teach him the philosophical wisdom about all creatures. Pleased with his meditation, Perumal gave him the boon he deserved. History tells us that Naradhar wrote the four-thousand-foot-long book ‘Nardiya Purana’ at Italam, which says that Perumale is all, and that it contains the method of worship and hymns.
