Introduction
Thethi Agneeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Thethi village, Nagapattinam circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. The road from Nagore to Nagai diverges at Thethi, two kilometres further on is this Shiva temple is located. Here the temple is facing towards the east side with triple tiered Rajagopuram. The lord is called as Lord Agneeswarar and Mother is called as Anandavalli.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be 500 years old.Lord name is Agneeswarar; Agni is cursed by taking part in the Yagya conducted by Datsana against the Lord, and as a result, Agni Bhagavan felt his power diminishing and worshiped by setting up lingams in many places. The east facing sanctum has a conical front hall in front of him. The Lord has a south-facing sanctum. At the sanctum sanctorum gate there is a small Lord Ganesha. There are shrines on both sides of the sanctum sanctorum. On the right is Murugan with Vallitheivanai.
In the north-east, Shani Bhairava is in a small hall. A separate temple has been built towards the south. It may be a new addition. Puja is performed twice in the morning and evening. The inscription on the gate of the Gopuram says that the Gopuram was built before the year 1907. In the inscription this village is called as Thethi.
