Introduction
Thandanthottam Agatheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Thandanthaottam village, Kumbakonam circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. This temple, which was called Thiruthandavathottam, is now 10 kilometres south-east of Kumbakonam as Thandanthottam, it is a town situated on the north bank of Arala river, there are two temples of Lord Shiva, one Perumal temple and two Nayak temples in the village. This temple is 1200 years old. Natanapureeswarar temple is located at the eastern corner of the first street in the east-west direction and this Agatheeswarar temple is located in the turning street next to it. To the west is the shrine of Agatheeswarar and to the south is the shrine of mother Abhirami. There are no other sanctuaries in a small space in front of the Lord’s shrine. Outside there is a small Nandi. When the Lord gave a vision to Agathiyar, he said, ‘You must overcome all the obstacles of marriage to the beloved who come to this place, and live a good life. Similarly, if you come here to worship, you will get the blessings of visiting Thirukailasam, so this place is equivalent to Kailasam.
