Introduction

Thaligaiyur Shiva Temple is located in the Thaligaiyur village, Papanasam circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. This is a small town; as soon as enter the village there is a Vinayagar temple towards the east at the end of the road leading is this Shiva temple is located.

Puranic Significance

A temple has not been seen here for years and only the name Lingam has come from it. The woman in the house next to this rice grove has always lit a lamp in this grove thinking of Lord Shiva. In the next few weeks, a Shiva temple in this village has disappeared into the ground and some officials have received an order through Olai Suvadi to retrieve it. Taking it along with villagers, this tomb was dug in a couple of places and the temple of the Lord has been recovered. In addition to a Nandi and an idol of Vinayagar, which have been kept for many years in this village vinayakar temple, the people of the village have made a platform for the Lingam and worshiping it in an east-facing hall. The lingam is believed to be 1000 years old.
