Introduction
- The Lord of Srivilliputhur is said to have worn garlands used in 108 Divinities in the evening.
- To commemorate this, 108 Divyadesa Perumal images are painted on the temple walls.
- The temple was expanded and built in 1536 AD by the Pandya and Chola kings.
- Srivilliputhur is the 90th Divya Desam among the 108 Divya Desams receiving Perumal’s Mangalasasana.
- Andal, Rangamannar, and Karutazhvar are uniquely present in the same temple.
- The temple tower (Gopuram) is the symbol of Tamil Nadu.
- Utsavar Perumal wears pants and a shirt, and Rangamannar Swami appears in a royal posture holding a scepter.

- Sri – Lakshmi (Andal’s incarnation).
- Villi – A king who ruled this region.
- Puthur – Named after a snake-infested area.
Puranic Significance
- Birthplace of Andal and Periyazhwar, who composed Tiruppavai and Tiruppallandu.
- Andal’s marriage to Rengamannar was originally planned in Srirangam but took place in Srivilliputhur.
- Andal’s father, Periyazhwar, expressed deep affection for her, highlighting a father’s love for a daughter.
- Singing Periyazhwar’s song is believed to increase love and affection between parents and children.
