Introduction

When we think of the temples they built, the great temple of Tanjore and the Chola temple of Ganga stand out in our minds. Rajendran, who conquered the islands of Sumatra and Javad with the sea and conquered the great conquests by pouring cells into the sea, is the great learner of Lord Shiva at Cholapuram, Gangaikonda Cholicharam. Puranic Significance

In this town called Esalam, Arulmigu Viramiswaram built a temple to Esan under the name of Mahadevar, and was the guru of Rajendra Chola, Chavasiva Pandita. During his 15th reign, Rajendran ordained Nannadu and Apokka Mana Vickrasochanallu as offerings to this temple. The village of Esalam and the Sri Ramanatheswara Temple, which is the center of the village, are peaceful. Near this town, there are eight thousand historical sites like Brahmadesam. The area is also very ancient as the Pallava Cave Temples like Mandakapattu and Talawanoo are located near Esalam and the Panamalai Thalagiriswara Temple is a testament to the Pallava period architecture. -In the inscriptions of this temple, it is mentioned that this place is the Mahadeva temple of Thiruviramiswaram and the name of the town is ‘Eidar’ and ‘Ethar’. The town is unique in that it is the only country in have won the Chola region. It is also known as Sri Rajaraja Sadhuvedi Mangalam. -Inscriptions dating back to the reigns of Rajendran I, Rajathi Rajan, Kulothungan I, Rajarajan I and Kopperunsingh I can be traced back to the Mannas. Ambal Sreedripurasundari Sannidhi is located on the north side of the Mahamandapam, facing south. Kedari also worships this goddess. Ambika graces the lotus garlands in the upper arms and the abhaya and varata seals in the lower arms. The steps leading to the shrine of esan and Ambika in the temple are located on the south side of the Mahamandapam. Copper monks were also found in the southeastern part of the area during the research. One of the copper saints appeared on the crest with the crest. Historians believe that this too may have been a portrait of Chavasiva Pandit. The temple dates back to about 1000 years and has undergone renovations during the reigns of the Pandya, Vijayanagara kings, Ginger Nayaks and Maratha kings. A statue can be seen on the road outside the temple. People call the idol ‘Kalvarayan Idol’ which looks like an idol in the image.

Once upon a time, cattle in the town of Esalam were afflicted with an incurable disease. No medicine can cure the disease. At this point, grace came to someone in town. He anointed the idol outside the temple with water and gave the anointing water to the cattle to cure the disease. ‘ The people did the same and gave the anointing theertham to the cattle, and the disease was cured. Since then, it has become customary for the cattle in and around this town to come here, anoint the calvary and take it to the Theertham in case of any disease. If this Swami is anointed with milk and oil, he will get the blessings of Ashwamedha Yagya. There by promoting position yoga; It is the belief of the devotees that can attain positions.

Special Features

On the first day of every year, the sun’s rays enter through this window and fall on the Lord. Near the three openings at the top of the window is a sculpture with a folded arm. Analysts believe that the temple may have been built by a Chavasiva Pandit. The Swami Sannidhi Altar is also famous for its sculptural technique.
