Introduction
Kanagapureeswarar Temple is dedicated to Shiva located in Mugaiyur village of Cheyyur taluk in Kanchipuram district of Tamilnadu, in Chennai – Puducherry ECR road. It is 86 km distance from Chennai & 62 km distance from Puducherry. Presiding Deity is Kanagapureeswarar and Mother is Swarnambigai.It is believed that Siddhars worshipped here. Vinayagar Statue in this temple belongs to the Chola period. Nandhikeswara is very big in this Temple. The temple has been renovated. This Shivan is nearly 1400 years old, due to natural calamities only Lord Shivan, Nandhi, Vinayagar alone remained, and the temple was washed away. There is a temple Tank. After the 2004 Tsunami many Shiva lingas were found shredding the shore along the ECR. This temple was built by Cholas and contributed by Pallavas before 1400 years. The Shiva Linga and the Nandhi are very big in size.
