Introduction

From If One travels 3 KM on Thiruthuraipoondi – Mannargudi road you could reach this temple. Near this temple are Thirukkalar, Kottur (Thirumurai sites) and Kizha Kottur Maniyambalam (Tiruvisaipa site) . This is the birth place of Kutruva Nayanar This is also vaiputhalam of Sundarar. There are three temples here, namely Alagiyanathaswamy Temple, Kayilayanathar Temple and AnaikathaPerumal Temple. Among these, the song Tiruvisaippa was received at the Alagiyanathaswamy Temple. The inscription of the Pandya king Kulasekara in the Alagiyanathaswamy temple mentions the Lord as ‘KalapalUdayar’, Adithecharamudaiyar.

Puranic Significance

The temple was built by Aditya Chola (850 – 890 AD), the son of Visayala Chola.
