There is such a temple. The temple is located in AnnamalaiPuthur in our Tirunelveli district. This temple is located in South of Thiruvannamalai. Where is AnnamalaiPuthur? What’s so significant about this temple. There is a village called Vannikkonandal on the way from Tirunelveli to Sankaran Koil This is an “S” shaped curve exactly 4 km from the Vanni. At that point the road splits to the left. It has a place called “Marukkalankulam Exemption”. The fire station is located in the village of Annamalaiputhur, 8 km from Marukkalankulam Road. This is where the Annamalaiyar Temple is located.

Puranic Significance

The temple was built over 200 years ago by a Siddhar from Thiruvannamalai during the time of the Birtish period.His name is Periyasamy. When SiddharthPeriyasamy came to this place, he was amazed that the area looked like Thiruvannamalai and built a small temple for Annamalaiyar there. The idol of Annamalaiyar, the idol he worshiped there, is still to the right of the Moolavar idol in Karpagrahat. .There is a big hill here just like in Thiruvannamalai. The mountain there is on the west side behind Shiva.Here is the east side in front of Shiva. There is also a Saptakannimar temple on the hill here. And also a big pond is here like Thiruvanamalai.SiddharPeriyasamy, who built a temple for Annamalaiyar in such a scenic area, lit a lamp on the hill every Thirukarthika day.Surrounded villagers were amazed to see that the lamp was burning Arriving at the foot of the hill the next day, SiddharthPeriyasamy would light a fire in his head and move around.On the day of Thirukarthika, Siddhar, with a lamp in his head, would go from house to house with the lamp ,they kept pouring oil on every house to keep the light burning on his head out.But nothing happened to him. .The lamp mounted on the hill in that town was seen for several km. . A head-lighting ceremony is also held annually. There is also a small chariot for this temple. This chariot race is also at midnight on Thirukarthikai. The fame of this city, which is so ancient and rich in spirituality, is unknown to the outside world. There are so many educated people in this town and so many great officials in the public sector.Yet the specialty of this temple is still unknown to many. There is not even a small book that tells the history of the pride of this town. How Thiruvannamalai shines on the day of Thirukarthika.
