Introduction
The temple of Sri Kalika Parasakthi, which grants ancestral blessings and divine grace, is one of the sacred places. She is revered as the mother of the auspicious land. This sacred site, known as the Sri Kalika Parasakthi Temple, is located about 5 kilometres from Aruppukottai in the Thoothukudi district.
Puranic Significance
The goddess Sri Kalikaparasakthi bestows life and guards against danger. When devotees perform penance with fire in hand and feet according to the ancient tradition, Sri Vethakali Amman appears before them. Sri Vethakali Amman is installed by the sages at a height of 42 feet, symbolizing the fusion of education, and wealth, making her one of the tallest statues in the world.
In the sacred Sri Kalikaparasakthi Thavasithar Peedam in Shinthalakarai, there is a shrine with 27 astrological pillars where devotees inscribe their village name, star, and grievances on a sheet of paper. The grievances are believed to diminish as they write them down. Below the statue of Rajasayanaperumal, there is a statue of Bhoomipalar, installed by Seeniwasan. The scene where the deities perform abhishekam for Bhoomipalar is enacted. The Temple is believed to be 800 years old.
Festivals
On Chitra Pournami, a grand abhishekam is performed for the goddess, and Swamis conduct a procession to protect the goddess. A special ritual of tying bracelets is performed for girls to attain marital bliss, fertility, and to remove marriage obstacles. This special puja is conducted during the month of Purattasi, and Navaratri puja is performed for Ambal.
