Introduction
Sembanarkoil Umamaheswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Sembanarkoil, Tharangambadi taluk, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Umamaheshwarar and Mother is called as Umamaheshwari. Sembanarkoil; It is ten kilometres east of Mayiladuthurai on Akkur road.This small Shiva temple is adjacent to the main road near the famous place called Thiruchemponpalli. The Lord Umamaheswar has a small Sanctum facing east side and Goddess Umamaheswari has a small sanctum facing south side in the temple. Vinayagar and Murugan are present at the gate of Lord’s palace. There is a small Nandi, altar and Sandesar on the north side. It may be a temple built with a lingam brought from Kashi. The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old.
