Introduction
Sattur Chidambareswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Sattur village, Chidambaram circle, Virudhunagar district of Tamilnadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Chidambareswarar and Mother is called as Sivagama Sundari.
Puranic Significance
The legend tells of an inscription near Sattur describing a vast lake constructed by a man named Pravahaikudik Kilva during the era of the early Pandya king Mara Vallabha. This inscription refers to the temple as Thanthonreeswaram. The temple was erected in the 13th century, under the rule of the later Pandyas, situated on the northern bank of the Vaipat River.
Special Features
The mandapa vidhaman in the spacious prakaram features a bas-relief sculpture representing the twelve zodiac signs. As you proceed, you’ll find the altar, flagpole, and Nandi, followed by a fourteen-legged mandapam supported by a lion. At the entrance of the Mahamandapa, there are Dwara Balakar and Dwara Shaktis. On the north side, you’ll encounter the shrine of Nataraja-Sivagami Amman.
In the sanctum, next to the Arthamandap, Lord Chitambareswarar Linga is enshrined as Thiruvadivinar. The Moolavar Vimana is designed in the style of the Pandit period. Remedial pujas are also conducted here for a smooth life.

It is believed that if one prays to Chidambareshvara on the eve, there will be harmony between the couple and happiness in life.

All Shiva related festivals especially Masi Magam is celebrated here with much fanfare.
