Introduction
Kailasnathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Sathukudal Village near Virudhachalam in Virudhachalam Taluk in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Thirupurasundar. The Temple is located at about 4 Kms from Virudhachalam.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. This is an east facing ancient temple. Presiding Deity is called as Kailasanathar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found facing the sanctum. Dakshinamoorthy, Lingodbhava, Durga and Brahma are the Koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Chandikeswarar can be found in his usual location. Vinayaga and Murugan can be found at the entrance of the sanctum. Mother is called as Thirupurasundari. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. There are shrines for Vinayaga, Murugan, Kasi Viswanathar, Chokkanathar, Vishnu, Bhairavar, Saneeswarar and Suryan in the Temple premises. There is an ancient Goddess and Sambandar idol in the temple garden. There is an ancient Murugan Idol in a sub shrine near to Vinayaga Shrine. There is a pond situated to the north of the Temple.
