Introduction
Vaishnodevi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Vaishnodevi located in Rourkela City in Sundargarh District in Odisha, India. This Temple is a replica of the original Temple of Vaishnodevi of Jammu (Trikuta Hills) and is situated on the top of the Durgapur Hill.
Puranic Significance
In the year 2000, images of Goddess Kali, Goddess Lakshmi, and Goddess Saraswathi were discovered on the hill. Subsequently, the Maa Vaishnodevi Temple Trust was established in the same year. The construction of a temple to house these images was completed by 2003. Additionally, in 2007, a Durga temple was inaugurated and made accessible to devotees.
This temple, located atop Durgapur Hill, is designed as a replica of the original Vaishnodevi Temple in Jammu’s Trikuta Hills. It is positioned in a way that it faces the Rourkela Steel Plant. Access to the temple involves ascending a flight of 600 steps.
The temple complex houses exquisite images of Goddess Kali, Goddess Lakshmi, and Goddess Saraswathi. The primary shrine on this hill is the cave temple enshrining Vaishnodevi. In close proximity to this cave, there is also a Durga Temple. Additionally, the Bhairabanath Temple can be found near the Vaishnodevi Temple on the hill.
Festivals
Durga Pooja and Navaratri are the other festivals celebrated here.
