Introduction
Ramapuram Kashi Viswanatha Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Ramapuram village, Kuttalam circle, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. This town is a sub-village of Cholampet. The reason for the name Ramapuram is not known. Here the Presiding deity is called as Kashi Viswanthan and Mother is called as Kashi Visalatchi.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. The Shiva temple is a medium sized temple, and it’s facing the Westward. The facade is beautifully designed with a decorative arch at the entrance. The lord Kashi Viswanatha is facing the west side and Mother Kashi Visalatchi is facing the south side. Vinayaka and Murugan are at the gate of Lord’s sanctum. Among Karurai Kothams, only Tenmugan and Mekalthirum have been kept as non-cemented stones. Bhairava Navagrahas are located in the north-east of Sundavaravata. A small nagar idol is also on the north side. There are no regular poojas in the temple. Iyyappan sanctum is built in the north-west towards the east. It seems that Ayyappan has entered the transition period. It doesn’t seem to open in the morning. Evening visit only in the temple.
