Introduction
Rajendram Shanamurtheeswarar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, located in the Rajendram village, Thiruvaiyaru circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. This Shiva temple is located on the north bank of Vettar River and takes a small road to the south, which is about 6 km from Thiruvaiyaru though this town is called as Ammanpet, this is also has a name as Rajendram. Here the lord is called as Shanamurtheeswarar.
Puranic Significance
Only the lord has east facing sanctum sanctorum and built of black stone, while the vimana is beautifully designed in brick. The temple is entirely of brick construction. In front of the sanctum sanctorum is a modern concrete mandapam and before that there is a small Nandi mandapam which houses Nandi and an altar. Karurai Kotam has Tenmugan in the south and Durga in the north. The other floors are empty. The temple is not properly maintained. It is said that only one time puja takes place here. A thousand-year wonder still faces the same problem and there is no proper worshiper due to insufficient income.
