Introduction
Puduppattur Thirumeninathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Puduppattur village, Thiruvarur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. It is said that there were ten ponds and ten temples here in the past, now there are only two Shiva temples are there. The first temple is the Thirumeni Nath temple and the next is the Punnaivanath temple. Thirumeni Nathan is located along the main road of the temple to the east, the shrines are arranged separately in the main compound, and there is a pond in front of the temple. There are shrines of Lord Thirumeninathar and Mother Soundharanayaki. The presiding deity is facing East side and the mother is facing South side in the temple. Both the sanctuaries have a front hall, but there is no connecting hall.
The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. It is not known why the Vinayagar and Murugan sanctuaries, which should be in the southwest of the sanctum sanctorum, are parallel to the Lord’s sanctum sanctorum. There is Nandi in front of the Lord. The sanctum sanctorum is only in the south where Dakshanmurthy is located and in the north is Sandesar shrine. Directly behind the sanctum sanctorum there is a small lingam. Only one time puja is done in the temple. It has been many years since Kudamuzku, the condition of the temple; the color coating of the temple has faded and is falling off.
