Introduction

Poovalaikudi Pushpavaneswarar (Poovalainathar) Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Poovalaikudi village, Ponnamaravathy circle, Pudukkottai district, Tamil Nadu. Poovalaikudi is a small village, the forest area west of the small pond south of the town and the Poovalaina Nathar temple is located on the hill. This Shiva temple is formed by digging a small hill about 10 feet high. This temple, which was once well-lit, is located in the desert and has to go beyond sight, and its antiquity and glory are not properly communicated to the outside world, so the number of devotees is decreasing. Although the temple is maintained by the Department of Archaeology of India, it is under the management of Pudukkottai Temples.

Puranic Significance

The inscription on the south wall of the Pushpavaneswarar Temple is the 5th reign of Rajendra Chola II.

The front hall has been expanded with a later black stone structure and the front hall is set up with pillars standing in front of the front hall. On the south side of the temple, Ambal is seated facing east along with Arthamandapam and Mukkamandapam. On the rock north of the sanctum sanctorum behind the sanctum sanctorum of Poovalainath Temple, Murugan is seen sitting on a peacock along with Valli and Deivanai in front of the sanctum sanctorum.
