  • Lord Vanrondareeser: The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, known as Vanrondareeser. He is enshrined in the sanctum in the form of a Lingam.
  • Goddess Abhirami: The mother goddess in the temple is called Abhirami. Her shrine is located on the right side of the sanctum, and she stands in a graceful posture.

Association with Eyarkon Kalikkama Nayanar:

  • Eyarkon Kalikkama Nayanar is a revered Nayanar saint associated with this temple. He is generally counted as the twenty-ninth Nayanar in the list of 63 Nayanars, who were devoted saints of Shaivism.
  • Kalikkama was born in Tiruperumangalam, Ponni Nadu, and belonged to the Vellalar caste, which consisted of agricultural landowners. He was a great devotee of Lord Shiva.
  • Kalikkama held a significant position as the commander-in-chief of the Chola ruler. He served Lord Shiva at the temple in Thiruppungur, which is linked to this temple’s history.
  • The Periya Puranam by Sekkizhar (12th century) provides an account of Kalikkama Nayanar’s life. The account narrates his devotion, his interaction with Sundarar (one of the prominent Nayanar saints), and his ultimate journey to Shiva’s abode.

  • Goddess Abhirami’s shrine is located to the right of the sanctum.
