Introduction

Chokkalingeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Periyanaickenpalayam Town in Coimbatore North Taluk in Coimbatore District in Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Chokkalingeswarar and Mother is called as Meenakshi. The Temple is situated on Coimbatore to Mettupalayam route.

Puranic Significance 

The Temple is believed to be built in 13th century CE and completely rebuilt in 1970s. The Temple finds mention in the hymns of Sivavakiya Siddhar, one of the famous 18 Siddhars. The place was called as Koodalur in ancient times.

This Temple is facing towards east with three tiered rajagopuram. Deepa Sthambam can be found in front of the rajagopuram. Presiding Deity is called as Chokkalingeswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Meenakshi. She is housed in a separate shrine. There is a shrine for Lord Nataraja along with his consort Shivagami in the temple premises. There are shrines for Chintamani Vinayaga, Sapta Matrikas, Venugopala Swamy with his consorts Radha & Rukmini, Vinayaga with his consorts Sidhi & Budhi, Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Chandran with his consort Rohini, Surya with his consorts Usha & Pratyusha, Nardana Vinayaga, Dakshinamoorthy, Bhairavar, Brahma and Ayyapan in the temple premises. It is unique to notice that all the deities in this temple are with their consorts. Sthala Vriksham is Jamun Tree (Naval Maram)

Beliefs

Devotees pray here for removing marriage obstacles and relief from diseases.

Festivals

            Arudhra Darshan, Shivaratri, Margazhi Thirukalyanam, Karthigai Somavaram, Karthigai Deepam, Aadi Fridays, Aadi Pooram, Kedar Gowri Vrata and Thai Oonjal festival are the festivals celebrated here. Monthly Pradoshams are also observed here.
