Introduction

Panruti Someswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Panruti circle, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. Twenty kilometres west of Cuddalore is Panrutti. This Shiva temple is at the end of Ponnusamy Street, which goes west from the main four-road junction, goes one hundred meters on Arasur Road, goes to Jawakar Street and turns left. Villagers are called this temple as Somesar kovil. Here the presiding deity is called as Somewarar and Mother is called as Amrithambigai.

Puranic Significance 

           The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. There is a three-tiered Rajagopuram on the eastern side of the temple. The Lord has an east-facing chamber in the main hall. Outside the front hall, Vinayagar and Lord Saturn are both on the floor.

Ambigai is facing south. Soman is also called Somanatha because he worshiped the moon. Dakshnamurthi Lingotpavar Brahman Durgai is in separate sanctum. Siddhivinayakar is in the south-west corner of Prakara. Next is Vallitheivanaisametha Murugan, with the six-faced Swamy, Next is Thandayudhapani Makalakshmi. All the temples have a two-pillared front hall. Around Ambigai’s sanctum, these divine Kriyashakti Devis are embodied. Nataraja’s shrine in the northeast has a hall facing south; Adjacent to the Rajagopuram, there are sun moons in small domes. The temple should be worshiped by people with Chandra Dosha. It is not possible to say when the temple opens in the morning and can be visited only in the evening.
