This Shiva temple is towards the east. As the street is in the west, the main gate is in the west. In a shed towards the south near the west gate, the Perumal has been with the Nachiyar’s for many years. It could have been found here after the temple was destroyed!! The Shivalaya murthys in the present temple, Ardhamandapam, and Mukappumandapam may have been restored during the reign of the Nayak kings. The Temple is believed to be more than 700 years old.
The sanctuaries are set with carved stone. The plane of the Lord is beautiful with beautiful nostrils, and there are the bodies of the sages in the eight directions. The Dakshanamurthy statue probably dates back to the Chola period. Here the Lord Sundareshwar and Goddess Meenakshi have a sanctum sanctorum. There are Nandi altars in front of both the Lord and the Goddess.
