Introduction
- Deity: Dedicated to Lord Ammaiappa Eswarar.
- Location: Situated 1 km west of Sri Renugambal Temple.
- Historical Significance:
- Built in the 12th century, it is considered the oldest temple in and around Padaiveedu.
- The temple features a simple design but holds significant historical and cultural value.
- Condition and Restoration:
- Originally buried due to sand storms, the temple was excavated and is now in good condition.
- It served as the family deity for the Sambuvarayar kings.
- Goddess: The temple features Aparnambigai as the goddess, with a deity height of approximately 5.5 feet.
- Unique Feature:
- In front of the Amman shrine, there is an underground pit from which ancient (Urchava) idols and ornaments were discovered.
- This area is marked with a sign stating “Not a Hundi” for clarity regarding its purpose.
- The excavated Urchava idols can be viewed in the Urchava mandapam.
- Historical Context:
- The temple was constructed in 1258 AD by Raja Kambeera Sambuvarayar during the reign of the Sambuvaraya chieftains.
- Restoration efforts were led by the Sri Venugopala Swami Kainkaryam Trust, with Kumbabishegam (consecration ceremony) conducted on January 29, 2001.
