The 500 year old Nerupur Muthaiyan Swamy Temple is located in the Nagamarai forest next to Pennagaram in Dharmapuri district. The Muthaiyan Swami is in a dark cave intertwined with rocks and the broad roots of the royal tree. Muthiah Swamy sits in the middle of it and gives blessings. Bats are hanging over Swami’s head. This Muthiah Swami is the incarnation of Kakkum Narasimhar.

Puranic Significance

Forests were once the habitat of the people. At that time, people who fell ill due to the attack of deadly beasts and those who fell ill due to the influence of evil spirits staggered. A similar severe drought prevailed. In such an environment, Narasimhar came as the Chief of Kaval to protect the tearful people. In that way they worshiped Narasimha as the eldest son in their family. It is said that the elder Ayyan became Muthiah over time. He is equally used as the Anjaneyar who is the best companion of Muthiah Swami who protects the homeland.

Beliefs

On the way to Swami Tiruveediula, women, children and adults are lying on the ground horizontally on the way. The temple priest, who is carrying the Swami, passes by them and gives blessings. With such a blessing, the suffering will be removed and the benefit will be removed. It is said that a child is blessed.

Festivals

The special worship held at the Muthiah Temple every year during the new moon of March is very popular.
