Introduction
Soundareswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Neduvasal Village in Tharangapadi Taluk in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Soundareswarar and Mother is called as Akhilandeshwari. Neduvasal was called as Neduvayil in ancient times. The temple is believed to be built during the 19th Century. The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Appar and Sambandar had a mention about this Temple.
Puranic Significance
This is an east facing temple with an entrance arch. Presiding Deity is called as Soundareswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Dakshinamoorthy, Lingodbhava, Brahma and Durga are the Koshta Idols located around the sanctum walls. Mother is called as Akhilandeshwari. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Mahamandapam is shared by sanctum and Mother Shrine. Nandi can be found in the Maha Mandapam facing Mother Shrine. Idols of Naalvar can be found in the Maha Mandapam. There are shrines of Vinayaga, Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Chandikeswarar, Navagrahas, Saneeswarar, Bhairavar, Suryan, Chandran and Vilva Vinayagar in the Temple premises.
