Introduction
- Located in Nagapattinam Circle, Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu, India.
- Dedicated to Lord Shiva, with the primary deity being Amaranandeeswarar and the mother deity Abithakujambal.
- Part of the Nagai Panniru Temples, worshiped by Lord Indra.
- Situated near the entrance of Nagai Nilayatashi Amman Temple on Sannathi Road.
Puranic Significance
- The temple is believed to be more than 1300 years old.
- The temple faces east, with a small tower gate.
- The name Amara-Indra-Iswarar was later referred to as Amaranandeeswarar, indicating the deity worshiped by Lord Indra.
- Mottai Gopuram features a sculpture of worshiping Lord Shiva.
- Inside, there is a Nandi, an altar, and a huge copper flagpole facing the Moolasthana (primary sanctum).
- Two Nayaga Murthys are positioned at the sanctum sanctorum gate.
- Male and female idols are present in the sanctum, believed to be worshiping the Lord, though their identities remain unidentified.
Temple Layout and Features
- Arthamandapam (semi-hall) and a small mandapam are located in front of the Lord.
- The deity Abithakujambal faces the south.
- In the Koshta (side walls), near Ganapati, there is a huge mango tree in the Durga Prakara.
- Other deities in the temple:
- Datshanamurthi, Rajaganapati, Balamurugan, Lakshmi Saraswati, Anjaneya, Bhairava, and the Navagrahas (nine planets) are placed in the north-east side of the temple.
