Introduction
Muppaithangudi Mahalingaswamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Muppaothangudi village, Thirunallar circle, Karaikal district, Tamil Nadu. Muppaithangudi is a small village in Thirunallar circle. This village was called as Muppayirvaithangudi and later became as Muppaithangudi. There are two temples in this town. Kailasanathar Temple is the biggest temple, Mahalingaswamy temple is a small temple located on the main road and is built as a single sanctum facing east on four cents of land. Ganesha Murugan is in the small domes at the sanctum gate of this temple. Opposite is a small beautiful Nandi. Currently, a new sanctum sanctorum is being prepared for Ambigai facing the south face. This Shiva temple may have been in big temple at one time. Now the temple is in single sanctum. The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old.
