Introduction
The Arulmigu Kothandarama Temple is an ancient and rare temple dedicated to Lord Rama, located in the small village of Mullangudi. This centuries-old temple is situated 6 km from Anicarai, along the Chennai-Kumbakonam highway.
Puranic Significance
Garudazhwar was troubled upon seeing Lord Rama alone. He wished to see Rama with Sita and a conch shell. Guidance from Kailasanathar: Advised Garudazhwar to meditate at Mullangudi. Prayed deeply to Lord Rama. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Rama appeared with Sita on his lap and a conch shell. Garudazhwar was overwhelmed by the divine vision. The place was originally called Pullangudi (Pul = Garuda). Since Garudazhwar saw the vision he desired, the name evolved into Mullangudi.
Beliefs
Devotees believe that prayers to Anjaneya are answered, especially for those seeking children or marriage. As a token of gratitude, devotees offer Vada Malai, Tamarind, Sesame, and Naivedya to Anjaneya and distribute them. Praying to Lord Rama at this temple is believed to remove all sins.
